BRUGES is called : The Venice of the North’. This splendid City is one of Belgium’s crown jewels. In no other European city the  feel and look of medieval times are so present as here in this city close to the north sea. Also within easy reach is the second world war memorial in the town of YPRES where a visit has a very different feel. From 1914-1918 the city became the focus of fighting between the Imperial German Armies of Emperor Wiilhem 2nd and the Allied Armies of Belgium,France,and Great Britiain. The first battle of Ypres began in mid October 1914. It was the first of four long battles fighting over possession of this ancient city.

 

Upon visiting Bruges, you will immediately notice that this city has always carefully cherished its architectural and artistic treasures from the past.
